Outfitting Outlander: So much more than kilts, ya ken!

Sara Rivers-Cofield
Last year the MAC Lab created an exhibit that tied 18th-century artifacts recovered by archaeologists in Maryland to scenes from the Starz period drama Outlander.  At the January 14 CCASM meeting Sara Rivers-Cofield discussed the creation of the "traveling" exhibit, the various sites associated with the artifacts in the display, and the historical accuracy of the Outlander's costumes and props.

Since the exhibit is currently at London Town, Sara brought examples of 18th-century artifacts that had not been included.  This included bottle corks and silver threads.  A microscope was needed to view the silver threads.  She also brought examples of clothing from her own collection.

Sara Rivers-Cofield is a curator at the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Lab (MAC Lab) at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum.
