  • Finding Common Ground: Can Relic Hunters and Archaeologists Work Together?
    Relic hunting has exploded during the COVID-19 pandemic with families looking for socially distanced, outdoor activities. Most of these history-lovers are unaware that sensitive historic sites might be damaged in the process. Meanwhile, archaeologists are alarmed by the damage but rarely reach out to the relic hunting community to find productive alternatives to what they see as "looting”. It’s time to talk about it!   • Equestrian Artifacts of the English Tobacco Colonies: Identification, Manufacturing, Trade, and Interpretation
    Many of the metal artifacts recovered on colonial archaeological sites in Maryland represent hardware from saddles and bridles. These often unrecognized pieces of history offer insight into the relationship between colonists and their horses. Sara will share her research on how to recognize and understand the meaning of these artifacts.  (1 hr 14 min)
